Hydrogen Tank Explosion Demonstration
Typically, hydrogen is safely stored as a compressed gas or liquid. Although hydrogen is a fuel, it needs the presence of an oxidizer, such as ambient air, and an ignition source in order to combust.
In this test demonstration, a cylinder was filled with a dangerous combustible mixture of hydrogen and air. Once sufficient electrical energy is supplied, the mixture ignites, causing rapid combustion and the catastrophic failure of the low-pressure cylinder.
