Hydrogen Tank Explosion Demonstration
Typically, hydrogen is safely stored as a purified gas or liquid. Although hydrogen is a fuel, it needs an ignition source and the presence of an oxidizer, such as pure oxygen or ambient air, to combust.
In this test demonstration, a cylinder was filled with a dangerous combustible mixture of hydrogen and air. Once sufficient thermal or electrical energy is supplied, the mixture ignites, causing rapid combustion and the catastrophic failure of the cylinder.
