Gary Floyd
Senior Mechanical Engineer, Hazard Analysis
- Over 26 years of experience in aerospace systems
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University
Gary joined the WHA team in 2024 to support hazard analysis for the hydrogen group.
Gary brings over 26 years of experience designing and testing aerospace systems at NASA White Sands Test Facility, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Blue Origin, and Ursa Major Technologies.
At NASA-WSTF, Gary served as a test, failure analysis, and repair engineer for space shuttle reaction control thrusters and orbital maneuvering engines. He was also a pressure system engineer, performing safety and system design reviews.
At NASA-MSFC, he performed component design for Ares-I rocket program.
At Blue Origin, Gary was a test and propulsion engineer. As a test engineer, he primarily performed hot fire testing of the BE-3 rocket engine. Additionally, he designed oxygen, hydrogen, hydraulic, methane, and pyrophoric systems. As a propulsion engineer, he designed a flight ignition system for the BE-4 rocket engine.
At Ursa Major Technologies, Gary worked as a ground system engineer. In this role, he designed the test equipment and rocket test facilities. He also developed the process safety management and pressure system design programs for the company and performed the role of safety and environmental engineer.
In his spare time, Gary enjoys bicycling, 3D printing, and exploring computer virtualization and networking technologies.
